Safety & Preparation
Are Grass Gators lawn treatments in Calgary kid and pet safe?
Yes — all products we use in Calgary are Health Canada approved. Safe after 30–60 minutes drying.
What should I do before we visit?
Mow + bag clippings, clear debris, and remove pet waste. ($50 cleaning fee if not done.) Make sure to rake and bag your lawn in the spring — Calgary’s dry winters leave a lot of thatch and debris that needs clearing before treatments.
How long does each application take?
5–10 minutes depending on property size. Most Calgary residential lots fall into this range.
When can I use my lawn again?
Once dry (30–60 minutes).
Lawn Care Tips
How often should I aerate my Calgary lawn?
Once a year in spring. Aeration is especially important in Calgary’s clay-heavy soil, which compacts easily and restricts root growth. Learn more about our lawn aeration and fertilizer programs.
When can I mow my lawn?
After lawn has dried from watering post-treatment. Evening or next morning is best — especially in Calgary’s dry climate.
How often should I water my Calgary lawn, and how much is enough?
3–4 times per week, 15–20 minutes per zone. Increase in July/August heat. Morning watering recommended. Calgary’s dry climate means rainfall alone isn’t enough — about 75% evaporates. Use the “tuna can test” (1 inch in 20 minutes) to measure water depth.
Why mow my Calgary lawn every week?
Weekly mowing encourages outward growth, creating a denser, healthier lawn. In Calgary’s short growing season, this helps maximize every week of summer.
How do I repair bare spots in my Calgary lawn?
Bare spots are common in Calgary lawns after dry summers or chinch bug activity. Scrape away dead grass, reseed, cover lightly with soil, and water consistently. For larger patches, consider overseeding or reseeding with our lawn care programs.
Weed Control
Why aren’t weeds dying after Calgary lawn treatments?
Weed control targets roots, not leaves. Tough Calgary weeds like dandelion and thistle may need 2–3 visits. If weeds persist after two treatments, our Unlimited Weed Control warranty covers free touch-ups.
Will overseeding fill in bare or damaged areas?
No — overseeding thickens Calgary turf but won’t repair bare spots. Reseeding is required.
Is it a good idea to overseed at the same time as aeration?
Yes — Calgary’s compacted clay soils make aeration + overseeding especially effective.
How do I get rid of thistle weeds in Calgary lawns?
Thistle is one of the toughest weeds in Calgary lawns. Stay on top of mowing and watering, and start weed control early in May with our Season-Long Packages for best results.
Chinch Bugs & Insects
Why do Calgary lawns get chinch bug infestations?
Chinch bugs are one of Calgary’s most common lawn pests. They thrive in sunny, dry areas and feed on grass roots. Left untreated, they can cause major damage in just a few weeks.
Will chinch bugs go away on their own?
No. In Calgary, they overwinter in the soil and return stronger each spring.
Do chinch bugs return after Calgary lawn treatments?
Yes — chinch bugs can return, especially in Calgary neighborhoods where nearby lawns aren’t treated. That’s why we recommend our 2-Visit Chinch Bug Program for effective protection.
Do Calgary lawn insecticide treatments come with a warranty?
No — results depend on weather, past lawn history, and neighboring untreated lawns or green spaces. Because of these outside factors, we cannot guarantee full prevention. For best results, it’s important that nearby lawns also receive treatment. Learn more about our chinch bug treatment program.
